The owner had the hull refinished in 2006 in blue with Awlgrip, and new bottom epoxy. Upholstery was replaced in 2006 The deck fittings have a few blemishes from some seasons in the Bahamas Below decks: The Niagara 35 created a sensation when it appeared on the Canadian market in 1978, with its aft cabin and double passageway forward. As you come down the companionway, there is a double berth to port, to starboard a single quarter berth [an sea excellent berth]. Both these berths have opening ports. Forward of the double berth is a large hanging locker. The chart table [with excellent storage underneath] ahead of the single quarter berth. The passageway to port takes you through the galley. The propane stove is outboard and beside the top loading refrigerator. The deep stainless steel sink is in the center of the boat [for excellent drainage on either tack], with more locker space both above and below the sink. A second passageway to starboard takes you through the head. There is a new marine toilet, a stainless steel sink and generous storage space for toiletries. The saloon features a center line table with two leaves and two 6 feet plus to settee berths. The starboard berth converts into a small double. There are two hanging lockers in this cabin and a vast amount of other storage space, plus two bookshelves. The forward cabin was designed for sail and other equipment storage and including a work bench area. The teak and holly cabin sole has recently been refinished and glistens. The corduroy light brown upholstery makes her an inviting boat below. The Niagara 35: Designed by Mark Ellis, was a success story across North America, being in production for about fifteen years, which is surely the ultimate test of good design. She is one of the best ventilated boats available-a major consideration for a perspective owner planning a Caribbean cruise. She has four opening hatches and six opening ports. With a high aspect rig, the Niagara 35 is a far cry from the cruising boats of yesteryear. She has a good turn of speed-as many a would be competitor apparently just out for a cruise has discovered! The relatively long finned keel and spade rudder makes her highly manouvrerable. The under body makes her a good boat for the ocean. The long fin means she tracks well, yet is no slouch to windward, unlike so many cruisers. With a displacement-length ratio around 295, she is a serious, heavy duty cruiser; her motion in a seaway is, accordingly, very reassuring.
